His Dark Materials are among my very favorite books, so I really can't wait to read Once Upon a Time in the North! And Sea of Shadows looks good for the next RIP Challenge, but I doubt I'll be able to wait that long to read it! And did you notice the bookmark and postcards by Anne-Julie Aubry? I absolutely love her work! And I hope no one expects to receive one of these postcards, because I'm afraid I have to keep them for myself.
And if that wasn't generous enough, Carl sent me an extra surprise. Because he was proud of me for donating my hair. Can you believe that? I don't feel worthy. It was really not a big deal to donate my hair, especially when you think about all the things the girls who actually need these wigs must go through. But I have to admit, I'm still very happy he did send me this extra surprise, because I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! Isn't this the beautiful necklace ever?
And in case you're still not convinced that Carl is the nicest person on Earth (though I think you'd have to be an idiot not to be), look at this box he made me to keep the necklace in. And it's even prettier in person than it looks in the photo!

Don't know if you know who I am because I rarely comment here, but I'm one of your mom's blogpals! Carl's gifts are the best! I have to go see if I can find a post about donating your hair. I donated mine to Locks of Love last summer, and you know what happened? I loved not having all that long hair all over my neck in the summer SO MUCH that this summer (well, last month) I got my hair cut short again. It wasn't long enough to donate this time, but it feels really good. I hope you like yours, too.

I'm so glad you liked everything Annie and am thrilled you did not already have those books. The worst thing about buying books for a book lover is the risk that they already beat you to the punch and bought them for themselves! It was a great deal of fun making the box and putting together elements that tied in to the art on the necklace. Did you see the full image of that painting on Anne-Julie's site? It is lovely.
Thanks for the nice words. I don't think I'm any different than anyone else, I think we all like to give to others and I think we all certainly like getting gifts. Having the opportunity to do so is a thrill for me and I'm glad you liked everything. And don't feel bad about keeping the postcards, I'm not sending out any of the ones I bought for myself either! :)
Dewey, that is really cool that you too donated your hair. I think it is a wonderful sacrifice that both of you have made and I'm sure it means absolutely the world to those who are benefiting from it...that makes the two of you the nicest people on Earth, my giving is not nearly as sacrificial. I supposed I could grow out my own hair but not only would work not approve but I'd probably end up looking like Ronald McDonald! :)
I just stumbled upon your blog today- it couldn't have been better! I felt like your reviews were detailed, to the point, and gavea good insight about whether we should read the book a lot! I'm 12 and have in previous years read many of the books you've reviewed. I totally feel the same way about most of them! Keep reviewing- and maybe start writing if you haven't already. (My friend and I have been writing a fantasy book since 5th grade(now I'm about to go into 8th) and are almost done.) =)
